The Silver Fern

"The most beautiful place on the island"   Waiheke Island Holiday Home

Booklovers Cottage is a contemporary, quiet, well appointed holiday home situated on 8 acres of land, overlooking Okoka Bay, Waiheke Island.

In an olive grove on the Te Whau peninsular, this cottage offers a peaceful, private holiday home in a location that is close to the most popular parts of Waiheke Island.

Take the short bush walk at the bottom of the grove that leads to idyllic Okoka Bay or visit Dead Dog Bay Sculpture Park and Wetland Gardens that adjoin the property.

20 minutes from Fullers Matiatia Ferry (passengers only) terminal and only 10 minutes from the Sealink Kennedy Point Ferry (passengers and vehicles) and from the Waiheke airfield, and 5 minutes from the Countdown supermarket.

Many of the islands best restaurants, vineyards and beaches are within a 5 kilometre drive of Booklovers Cottage.  Special close-by treats are Frenchmans Hill Estate vineyard and winery, with platter lunches, and the Rocky Bay Cafe.

Booklovers Cottage is immediately adjacent to the Round Waiheke Walkway which makes us a perfect place to stay to explore the many walks on this part of the island.

The cottage has two super-king bedrooms (or twin king singles as required), each with an en-suite bathroom with shower. It is equipped to provide all the basics required for self catering as well as providing an atmosphere to relax and spoil yourself.

Booklovers Cottage is a special holiday home on Waiheke Island specifically catering for adults and families wanting to relax. It is a secluded space surrounded by bush, beaches and walks to help unwind, relax and get away from it all.

Janet and Gordon have owned property on Waiheke for over 30 years and live in a house on the property, about 40 metres from Booklovers Cottage.

Janet is a retired Interior Designer, now an avid gardener and reader.  She is also passionate about art, with a qualification in Art History, and is a volunteer at and an honorary life member of the Waiheke Community Art Gallery.   Gordon is a retired consulting Civil Engineer and is carrying out the property maintenance, mowing and lifting.  He is currently the Chairman of Trustees of the Waiheke Literary Festival (Words on a Small Island) and active on the establishment commitee of the Friends of Alison Park whose aim is to revitalise the Alison Park Reserve at the gateway to Oneroa.  Gordon is also a member of the Rotary Club of Waiheke Island and is involved in its many projects on and off the Island.   We are patrons of the Waiheke Walking Festival.

We have various grandchildren, all of whom live in Auckland, but this does not prevent us taking overseas holidays, sometimes with our children and grandchildren, whenever the opportunity arises.

We are happy to work in with your holiday wishes, be they to have a quiet undisturbed time, or to have an event-filled experience of Waiheke.  If you need advice we can point you in the direction of restaurants, wineries and other activities that you may wish to experience.  If you require any facilities that are not listed we will be happy to discuss these with you.
